	Hilde is op 18 oktober 2024 gepromoveerd op een onderzoek naar mogelijkheden om in de bovenbouw van het basisonderwijs leesonderwijs te integreren in lessen natuur & techniek De focus lag daarbij op het aanleren van kennis over de structuur van informatieve teksten.

	Ze is geïnteresseerd in taalontwikkeling en in het bijzonder in de wijze waarop tekstbegrip tot stand komt en hoe het onderwijs gebruik kan maken van deze kennis. Vanuit die interesse en de expertise die ze heeft opgebouwd tijdens haar promotieonderzoek is ze projectleider van de Werkplaats Onderwijs-onderzoek Leesvaardigheid, waarin leraren uit het primair onderwijs, het voortgezet onderwijs, het mbo en de Zeeuwse bibliotheken samen werken aan versterking van hun leesonderwijs. Daarnaast participeert ze in een flankerend onderzoek naar Samen onderzoekend werken in regionale netwerken (NRO), waarin zij het leernetwerk ‘lezen met begrip en betrokkenheid’ in Amsterdam volgt.

	Ze werkte tien jaar in het basisonderwijs en is van 2012 tot 2024 docent Nederlands bij de opleiding Leraar Basisonderwijs van de Hogeschool Zeeland geweest. In het najaar van 2024 startte ze als senior onderzoeker bij het lectoraat Excellence and Innovation in Education.

	Hilde heeft de pabo gedaan aan de Hogeschool Zeeland. Daar werd de belangstelling voor taal die ze al had, nog verder aangewakkerd en daarom is ze daarna Nederlandse taal- en letterkunde gaan studeren aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Ze koos voor de specialisatie communicatiekunde. Haar afstudeeronderzoek ging over de invloed van tekststructuur op het begrip en de waardering van studieboekteksten in het vmbo.

	~~“What happens in a person's mind when he reads?”~~


	Hilde received her PhD on October 18, 2024 for research into the possibilities of integrating reading education into science and technology lessons in upper primary education. The focus was on teaching knowledge about the structure of informative texts.

	She is interested in language development and in particular in how text comprehension is achieved and how education can use this knowledge. Based on this interest and the expertise she has built up during her PhD research, she is project leader of the Workshop for Educational Research on Reading Skills, in which teachers from primary education, secondary education, secondary vocational education and Zeeland libraries work together to strengthen their reading education. She also participates in a complementary study into Collaborative investigative work in regional networks (NRO), in which she follows the learning network 'reading with understanding and involvement' in Amsterdam.

	She worked in primary education for ten years and was a Dutch teacher at the Primary Education Teacher training course at the Zeeland University of Applied Sciences from 2012 to 2024. In the autumn of 2024 she started as a senior researcher at the Excellence and Innovation in Education lectureship.
