	Ze heeft zeventien jaar het vak Nederlands gegeven aan verschillende voorgezet onderwijsscholen. Daarbij vond ze het altijd belangrijk om samen met collega’s onderzoek te doen naar de uitdagingen die ze in dat onderwijs tegenkwam. In 2021 verhuisde ze naar Zeeland en in 2024 maakte ze vanuit het onderwijs de overstap naar onderzoek en ze startte als onderzoeker aan HZ University of Applied Sciences.

	Jessica heeft Nederlandse taal- en letterkunde gestudeerd aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Ze heeft daar een historisch literatuuronderzoek gedaan naar Cojo, Mentor en Present: drie tot slaaf gemaakten die van 3 op 4 september 1832 een brand veroorzaakten in Paramaribo. Vervolgens heeft ze enkele jaren gewerkt op de literatuurafdeling van het boekenpaleis Scheltema in Amsterdam, waarna ze de lerarenopleiding Nederlands aan de Vrije Universiteit gedaan heeft.

There she conducted a historical literature study on Cojo, Mentor and Present: three enslaved people who caused a fire in Paramaribo from 3 to 4 September 1832. She then worked for several years in the literature department of the Scheltema book palace in Amsterdam, after which she completed the Dutch teacher training course at the Vrije Universiteit.
