Ze startte bij de HZ als docent-onderzoeker. Van 2019 tot 2021 werkte ze als projectleider van het TKI wetland-project waarbij er werd onderzocht of wetlands kunnen worden gebruikt als voorbehandeling om de hoeveelheid biofouling bij een ontzoutingstechnologie (bijvoorbeeld Ion Exchange en Reverse Osmosis ) te verminderen.
Momenteel onderzoekt ze hoe de steden Middelburg en Vlissingen meer klimaatadaptief gemaakt kunnen worden (OP Zuid) met een focus op het verbeteren van de waterkwaliteit in de stedelijke omgeving via blauwgroene oplossingen. Daarnaast trekt ze als projectleider van Aquatuur Interreg Vlaanderen Nederland. Dit project onderzoekt in hoeverre wetlands kunnen bijdragen aan de zoetwaterbeschikbaarheid in een waterschaarse regio.
Naast haar werk bij de Water Technology groep geeft Mireille ook les binnen verschillende modules van de Water Management opleiding, zoals Ecological water quality, Hydrology en Advanced Water Technology.
Naast haar baan bij HZ, werkt Mireille bij een Belgisch bedrijf dat wetlands aanlegt en ontwerpt. Ook hier is ze vnl bezig met onderzoeksprojecten zoals het Horizon 2020 project Multi Source waar hergebruik van gezuiverd afvalwater wordt onderzocht op een camping. Een ander voorbeeld is het H2pOwer project gesubsidieerd door de Vlaamse overheid met als doel om extra waterzuivering te realiseren via een oeverplantendak dat wordt gevoed met gezuiverd afvalwater - door een wetland - van een kantoorgebouw.

In addition to her job at HZ, Mireille works for a Belgian company that constructs and designs wetlands. Here, too, she is mainly involved in research projects such as the Horizon 2020 project Multi Source, where the reuse of treated wastewater is being investigated at a Belgian campsite.
