Zijn persoonlijke onderzoeksfocus ligt op toegepaste, toekomstige technologieën die vraagstukken rond systeemintegratie van hernieuwbare energiebronnen (zonne-energie, (offshore) windenergie, getij) oplossen, met name in de context van industriële en maritieme processen in de Zeeland en Vlaanderen. Hij heeft daarbij oog voor oplossingen als flexibiliteit en opslag door middel van batterijen, waterstof en flexibele thermische processen/opslag.
