Design Thinking & Doing minor

Students in the Design Thinking & Doing minor will engage and design relevant solutions for a variety of challenges within the region of Zeeland. Complex and impactful themes such as Water, Energy, Food and Vitality are central within this Design Thinking minor.

Throughout the projects students will not only make a difference for the client with their fresh insights and perspectives but they will also learn to apply the Design Thinking approach with help of our Design Thinking toolkit. The Design Thinking toolkit is divided into four main phases based on the Double Diamond model as you can see below:

Process & Procedure

Next to the four main phases of the toolkit, the diamond also has clear sub-steps. Each main phase provides a systematic approach to tackle the complex challenges students face in their project. All sub-steps come with one or multiple templates we designed to help students think outside the box and make sure they really understand the problem at hand and their stakeholders. Through hands-on experience and constant iteration within this process, students develop the confidence and tools to approach complex challenges that may arise in their future careers. Moreover, students will learn to..

  • Collaborate with industry stakeholders and fellow students from different study programs, backgrounds and universities.
  • Work on one or two projects simultaneously, depending on their study load
  • Develop solutions through exploring, ideating, prototyping, testing, and iterating
  • Embrace uncertainty—sometimes you won’t know the outcome right away, but you’ll learn to trust the process
  • Build a versatile skillset that applies across multiple disciplines and industries
